Documentary Series
Hi, my name is Josh Johnston and I am the cameraman and editor for Entrances, Exits, and Everything in Between with Patti LuPone. What she and I have collaborated on is our effort to show aspiring performers and fans of the arts what it's like in the shoes of a veteran of the craft: everything from the Sunset lows to the Rainbow Highs of performing, Patti LuPone has seen and lived it all. My intention was to shoot a documentary and not reality TV, and while this is all real, nothing is ever staged or shot twice. With that said, we hope you enjoy watching as much as we have enjoyed living it. Stay tuned for future episodes!
In our premiere episode, we follow Patti around Europe as she vacations and prepares to perform one of her cabaret acts, "The Gypsy in My Soul", on the Celebrity Silhouette as it sails around the Mediterranean Sea. Filmed from July 24th - August 11th, 2011.
In our second installment of Entrances, Exits, and Everything in Between with Patti LuPone, we are given a sideline view of the backstage life at a Broadway show. As Patti performs "An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin", we get to see how many factors go in to performing on the Broadway stage, and what happens when Patti gets an exciting offer in the middle of the run. Filmed from November 21st 2011 - January 13th, 2012.
In the third installment of Entrances, Exits, and Everything in Between with Patti LuPone, we travel from New York City to Washington, D.C. for the 2011 Kennedy Center Honors. In the great city of D.C. old friends were reunited, and new friends were made. Filmed from December 4th - December 5th, 2011.
In the fourth installment of Entrances, Exits, and Everything in Between with Patti LuPone, we begin our journey with yours truly, the cameraman, as I trek across the east coast to prove that family always comes first in this clan. After I meet up with Patti in NYC, we'll take you behind the scenes as she prepares for a doubleheader of evening performances at the brand new nightclub 54 Below. And you may be lucky enough to see a snippet of the actual performance. All this is just an average Saturday, but part of a whirlwind weekend, as the next day was the Tony Awards*! Filmed June 9th, 2012.
*The Tony Awards are not in this episode, but they are the focus of the next episode!
In the fifth installment of Entrances, Exits, and Everything in Between with Patti LuPone, we continue our whirlwind weekend of June 9th & and 10th, 2012 with what happened on Sunday. On the night of the 9th, Patti performed twice at 54 Below, as part of the grand opening of the nightclub, and the next morning at 6 a.m. she was up and already flying around New York City as the Tony Dress rehearsal loomed before the real thing later that night. All in all, the day was jam packed for 19 straight hours, but as Patti says in this episode, it's all worth it to be a part of Broadway on a day it celebrates all its wonderful talent. Filmed on June 10th, 2012.
In episode 6, Patti returns to the high seas with Atlantis Cruises and Rich Campbell, performing her new act "Faraway Places" onboard the Celebrity Quest ship, but not before vacationing in France and Turkey. The ship traveled from Istanbul, Turkey to Athens, Greece in just over a week. Filmed from 8/3/12- 8/24/12.
In the seventh installment of "Entrances, Exits, and Everything in Between with Patti LuPone", we go across the pond and visit a Johnston/LuPone family favorite: London, England. Patti and Seth Rudetsky are performing at the Leicester SQ. Theatre for a week, and in addition to seeing old friends, Patti and the group take in London and it's surrounding sites. Filmed from June 18th - June 29th, 2013...or something like that.
In the 8th episode of "Entrances, Exits, and Everything in Between with Patti LuPone", we travel to the Baltics for a Playbill Cruise! Patti crosses Russia off of her travel list, and reunites for musical numbers with former castmates somewhere in the Baltic Sea. Filmed from August 4th - August 18th, 2014.
In episode 9 of Entrances & Exits with Patti LuPone, Patti visits Broadway's Richard Rodgers Theatre for a street performance you will not want to miss! Filmed on May 18th, 2016.
